Greeting  atau salam tegur sapa dimaksudkan antara lain untuk menjalin hubungan dengan orang lain atau untuk menunjukkan persahabatan. Dilakukan ketika orang saling bertemu untuk pertama kali di hari itu. Memberi salam kadang kadang disertai dengan jabat tangan , berpelukan atau cium pipi antar wanita. Semua itu tergantung dari budaya pada suatu daerah masing-masing.Dalam bahasa Inggris salam selalu direspon dengan ungkapan yang sama. Perhatikan contoh greeting atau salam tegur sapa berikut ini:
